Wayne LaPierre was reelected executive vice president and CEO of the NRA at the culmination of the group's annual convention in Houston over the weekend.
LaPierre, 72, has been a top leader of the NRA since 1991 and was reelected to his position on Monday.
Other leaders chosen by the board of directors included Charles Cotton who was reelected as president of the board, Lt. Col. Willes K. Lee as first vice president and David Coy as second vice president.
In a statement released by the NRA Monday, LaPierre shared the following sentiments:
โI am honored to continue my work for the NRA, and to join our members in their campaign to promote responsible gun ownership and defend Second Amendment freedom for all law-abiding Americans.โ
He fended off a challenge from Allen West โ who received only a single vote in favor of his candidacy โ and who seems to have become somewhat of a political opportunist in recent years.
West served in Congress for one term, from 2011 to 2013, representing the 22nd District of Florida.
He later moved to Texas and was elected to be the chair of the Texas Republican Party in July of 2020. West was in that role until July of 2021 when he announced that he would challenge Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in the Republican Primary.
West lost the challenge on March 2nd during Texas' primary election โ the first primary election in the country.
