After losing his January U.S. Senate runoff, former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) is mulling a dramatic political comeback.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perdue is seriously considering mounting a primary challenge against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. The paper reports that Perdue has gone so far as to solicit advice from longtime political allies and major donors.
Though initially liked by President Trump, Gov. Kemp finds himself in the former president's crosshairs these days for his refusal to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia.

Trump wanted Kemp to do so off of disproven claims of widespread voter fraud. Despite Trump's anger, Kemp hasn't decided to retire. Should Perdue run, the primary would set the stage for a heavyweight GOP battle.
Per The Hill:
Speculation has swirled for months that Perdue could mount a bid for the governor's mansion. He ruled out a 2022 campaign against Sen.ย Raphael Warnockย (D-Ga.) in February, but has maintained a regular presence at grassroots events in Georgia and recently met with former Presidentย Donald Trump, who has vowed to campaign against Kemp next year.
But according to the AJC, Perdue has gotten more serious about a campaign for governor in recent weeks, calling donors and allies to run the idea past them.ย

Perdue left Washington earlier this year after narrowly losing a January runoff election to Sen.ย Jon Ossoffย (D-Ga.). That defeat, combined with former Sen.ย Kelly Loeffler's (R-Ga.) loss to Warnock in a separate runoff, helped hand Democrats control of the Senate.
If Perdue ultimately decides to challenge Kemp for the GOP nomination next year, it would almost certainly set off a divisive primary that would garner intense national attention.
