The House of Representatives just passed a bill to protect abortion access across the country in response to last month's Supreme Court decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson โ which confirmed that there is no constitutional right to abortion in the United States โ thereby overturning the Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973. The House voted 219 to 210 in favor of H.R. 8296 the Women's Health Protection Act of 2022 WHPA). Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar joined every Republican on the floor to vote against the WHPA.
Pro-Life advocacy organization Susan B. Anthony List shared poll numbers earlier today suggesting that the majority of pro-choice voters don't even support the โextremeโ proposals in the bill Democrats passed today.
The poll conducted by OnMessage Inc. included the following findings:
- 70% of voters oppose abortion without restrictions, including majorities of both pro-choice and pro-life voters.
- 63% of voters disapprove of legislation that would overturn nearly all state-level prohibitions on abortion, even limits on late-term abortion.
In a statement, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelserย shared the following sentiment while reflecting on the poll numbers:
โPro-abortion Democrats are dramatically out of touch with a majority of Americans who reject abortion extremism. Already in this newย Dobbsย era, more than a dozen states have implemented life-saving protections for unborn children and their mothers. Yet Democrats and the abortion industry are spreading fear and lies about theย Dobbsย decision to push their unpopular, unsafe agenda โ including the deceptively named Women's Health Protection Act. This legislation, which has already failed three times, would enshrine a virtually unlimited โright' to abortion in federal law and block new and existing pro-life laws.โ
Speaker Nancy Pelosi headlined a press conference held by the Democratic Women's Caucus ahead of the bill's passage.
Vice President Kamala Harris urged Congress to pass the legislation in a tweet shared yesterday.
Most expect the WHPA to hit a wall in the 50-50 U.S. Senate.

This is not about protecting women. The legalization of abortion is, and has always been, about protecting those who prey upon women.
Dies in the Senate??
The bill will be terminated.
Virtue signaling…..oh how quaint.
