A Nebraska mother and daughter have been charged with felonies after allegedly planning and committing an illegal abortion and burying the burned fetus after.
Norfolk police started an investigation after receiving a tip that then 17-year-old Celeste Burgess had miscarried and that she and her mother had buried the body, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Investigators used warrants to obtain Facebook messages in which Jessica Burgess, 41, told her teenage daughter she had procured medication to induce abortion and provided instructions for its use, the AP reports.
The mother faces five criminal charges to include three felonies for her role in the alleged abortion, the Lincoln Journal Star said. Daughter Celeste Burgess will be tried as an adult on three charges, including a felony. A third person, a 22-year-old man has been charged with a misdemeanor for helping to bury the fetus.
Medical records showed that Celeste Burgess was 23 weeks along, or nearly six months pregnant, at the time of the abortion, the Lincoln Journal Star reported. Burgess reportedly told investigators that she had unexpectedly given birth in the shower and together with her mother received assistance from a 22-year-old man with burying her stillborn baby on his parents' property. Abortion in Nebraska is prohibited past 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Just one week after the pair was charged for false reporting and concealing and abandoning of a human body, investigators uncovered Facebook messages between mother Jessica Burgess and Celeste that suggested a more nefarious end to her pregnancy than miscarriage. Celeste talked about how she couldn't wait to get the โthingโ out of her body, according to court documents cited in the Lincoln Journal Star. โI will finally be able to wear jeans,โ Celeste stated.
The body of the baby was additionally found with โthermal wounds,โ consistent with Facebook messages discussing burning the evidence, according to the AP. Medical records suggested the baby was more than 23 weeks old.
What's most troubling about this news story isn't simply the gruesome details of the mother and daughter's alleged actions, but its use by mainstream media to again dehumanize the unborn and advance abortion rights. Much of the coverage centers around the use of personal data in enforcing abortion laws in the wake of Roe v. Wade's overturn. ย
Bloomberg's coverage of the story underscored Facebook's complicity with authorities in providing users' personal data: โSocial network complied with a warrant seeking personal data.โ The media outlet additionally noted that the โreversal of the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling has paved the way for a state-by-state patchwork of newly severe restrictions on abortion access and varying methods for enforcement.โ
The UK's Daily Mail, in its attention-grabbing headline, emphasized the fact that the daughter is to be tried as an adult, placing โadultโ in all caps. The news piece also discussed Republican Governor Pete Ricketts' efforts to enact stricter abortion laws for Nebraskans. CNN focused on social media's forced role in responding to warrants for information relating to illegal abortions since Roe v. Wade's reversal. The media giant noted that although both Burgesses were charged prior to Roe v. Wade's reversal, โthe case demonstrates how private information such as direct messages on social media could be used to enforce laws prohibiting abortion.โ

This is the state of our warped America today. Murdering a baby and then burying this poor child, how much more sinister and evil can someone get? Unfortunately this is the mindset of the typical demented demonrat (so called) “citizen” in our day and age. Prosecute these warped women and make an example of them both!
So they burned the fetus, consistent with sacrifice of babies that has long been a tradition of Satanists?
Societal Rot
Simple solution here right from the start. Celeste should have kept her legs closed. Now that she didn’t, publicly execute all 3 murderers.
MURDER AND ABUSE OF A CORPS WILL FOREVER REMAIN EVIL AND MOST PUNISHABLEโ
Why would someone wait that long to abort their child and go through all the drama that ensued after burning and burying the baby? And then to post evidence of your crimes on FB ?????
EVIL!!!
THINKING……….COURTESY OF THE DEMS……………JUST DISGUSTING
What they did was horrible, reading about their degrading comments, was even more sickening. The article mentions a 23 year old man helping them in their gruesome actionsโฆ.was he the father?
A miscarriage is not an abortion per the law…a miscarriage is nature’s way of ending a pregnancy prematurely. Miscarried babies are rarely able to be kept alive, so if the mother and grandmother found a miscarried baby from her and it was not alive, there is no crime here, unless the law states that dead bodies cannot be privately burned and buried, as might be the case in some states.
Therefore this article is very misleading and tries to scare pro-life people into thinking a miscarriage is an abortion. Per the law an abortion is when a human prematurely ends a pregnancy…a miscarriage is when nature does it. Don’t be fooled.
The article states the mother procured abortion inducing drugs and instructed her daughter how to use them. Drug induced miscarriages are abortions. Therefore, a human prematurely ended the pregnancy. There’s where the crime comes in, as well as burning a corpse, against the law in many states unless the burning is at an authorized crematorium.
Corection: a miscarriage is also known as a “spontaneous abortion.”
Well, at least now Celeste will be able to wear jeans again. Excellent reason for murdering an innocent while still in the womb.
