โRules for thee, not for me,โ while this quote didn't come from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) it certainly applies to her.
For the second time, Ocasio-Cortez has decided to flout congressional financial disclosure laws but this time she is openly admitting to it. Ocasio-Cortez wasย required by federal lawย to submit her 2021 finances to the House Ethics Committee 11 days ago on Aug. 13 but has yet to do so.
However, when reporters reach out to AOC's office about the blunder โ instead of immediately moving to correct what could have been a clerical oversight โ a spokesperson doubled down on AOC's actions.
โThe committee provides a 30-day grace period before fines are levied. The congresswoman plans to file before the period expires,โ Ocasio-Cortez Communications Director Lauren Hitt told theย Washington Examinerย on Tuesday evening.
While the consequences aren't all that severe if AOC ultimately passes the 30-day mark, she will have to pay a $200 fine, her devil-may-care attitude has some voters frustrated.
According to the Washington Examiner:
โNot only is she an admitted scofflaw โ she's a repeat offender,โ said Paul Kamenar, an attorney for the National Legal and Policy Center, a conservative ethics watchdog group. โOne must wonder whether she also files her income tax returns past the deadlines.โ
โJust like AOC did in 2020 when she filed her 2019 disclosure report 30 days late after the 90-day extension, she's at it again, blowing off the deadline for filing her 2021 filing that was due on Aug. 13,โ Kamenar added.
Almost all members of the House have reported their 2021 financial disclosures as required by federal law as of Wednesday morning, the New York Democrat is one of 10 House reps who have yet to report their finances.
AOC's conscious decision to hold off on reporting her finances has drawn increased skepticism due to her very public stance in regard to her own colleagues' finances. The congresswoman has repeatedly pushed to prohibit lawmakers from holding stocks, saying it is a โthreat to democracy.โ
In April, AOC called for a congressional stock-trading ban after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's success within the stock market raised alarms that she and other lawmakers could commit insider trading violations. (RELATED: Pelosi's Husband's Stock Trades Ahead of Key Vote โStinks to High Heaven')
โWe are also tackling a crisis of faith in our institutions in the United States, and that exploitation of that crisis of faith is a direct threat to our democracy,โ Ocasio-Cortez said.
โIt is our responsibility to ensure that we eliminate, again, that perception of impropriety because it is these perceptions that can be exploited to undermine our most sacred institutions,โ she added.

Send her back to wherever she loves her country, and leave our country alone
Her election, then her reelection, to congress sure doesn’t say much about the intelligence of the voters in her district.. Being a student, then a barkeeper, sure gave her a real good background for knowing all about how our government works and world affairs, didn’t it? Her district will probably reelect her again this November, so what else can we say about her and her voters?
How about they are ignorant?
Maybe she is someone that they want to keep out of the district, so they elected her to make certain she is not around to cause problems locally.
Ballot harvesting got her elected both times.
In other words โฆ cheating got her elected.
I’m not surprised! Her track record in Washington shows she is not forthright and bloviates a lot. A total non-contributor….
For the life of me I can’t figure out why she hasn’t done this already. What the hell else does she do all day? Nothing!
Nothing is the democrat way of life!!
Yes anything that our elected officials have information or have any ability to shape policies could be used to acquire monetary reward that the general public does not have should keep elected officials from owning financial material that could be affected by policy or even word of mouth.
OK then prosecute OK
Cheaters cheat. In many cases, the cheating is treasonous and should involve the most severe punitive measures. What do we hear? Listen for it; crickets.
How many DemoCreeps and Republican RINOs are working to line their pockets via corruption at the expense of the People? I feel really sorry for the electorate who voted this swinish bartender into office.
This poor woman is obviously in above her head. She is a low IQ but horribly glib phony. If we keep sending people like her to Washington DC, we will quickly become a third-world nation,
