Republican Herschel Walker had been leading Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, albeit narrowly, in Georgia's marquee U.S. Senate race. Now, a new allegation first reported by The Daily Beast โ and further corroborated by Walker's own son โ has many Georgia Republicans fearful that Walker's campaign has been mortally wounded.
Last night, the left-wing online periodical, The Daily Beast first reported that Walker paid his girlfriend to have an abortion in 2009. Two hours after the story's initial publication, Walker appeared on Fox News' โHannity.โ Instead of receiving softballs, which Walker desperately wanted, host Sean Hannity had fairly pointed questions for the presumed frontrunner. Hannity began by calling the charges against the Georgia Republican โserious accusations.โ
Walker claimed he had โno ideaโ who the anonymous woman making the allegation might be. He then dismissed the allegation as a โflat-out lieโ before attempting to switch to much more favorable topics for his campaign: the border, crime and inflation.
But Hannity had no intention of letting Walker pivot.
As Yahoo! News reports:
But instead of letting him off easy, Hannity did the unexpected and dug into the details of the piece, which came with damning receipts, including a get-well card signed by Walker, a personal check, also signed by Walker, and an actual receipt from an abortion clinic.
Asked directly if that was his signature on the card, Walker claimed not to have seen the image in questionโeven as it appeared on screen beside himโand stammered through the excuse that he sends out lots of get-well cards. โBut I can tell you right now, I never asked anybody to get an abortion, I never paid for an abortion, and it's a lie,โ he said. โAnd I will continue to fight.โ
Then, just when Walker thought he had put the issue to bed with a semi-rousing speech about how this latest scandal has only โenergizedโ him, Hannity came back with yet another question: โWhat about the $700 check? Is there anybody you can remember sending that much money to?โ
After a lengthy pause, Walker said, โWell, I send money to a lot of people.โ He chalked the payment up to an example of him โhelpingโ people and being โgenerous,โ adding, โGod has blessed me, I want to bless others.โ
Besides former President Donald Trump, no one in the conservative media ecosphere spent as much time encouraging Walker to run for Senate as Hannity, which made his tough questioning all the more surprising for many observers.
While Walker remains adamant in his denials, his son, Christian Walker, chastised his father for being, in his words, a moral hypocrite.
Christian is known for his outspoken stances against woke indoctrination. After being lambasted by some conservatives for attacking his father, Christian posted this video:
So, what do you think? Is Herschel Walker's U.S. Senate campaign over? Or can he recover against a radical Democrat like Raphael Warnock? As always, tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
