Taiwan says war with China โabsolutely' not an option, but bolstering defences.ย War between Taiwan and China is โabsolutely not an optionโ, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said on Monday, as she reiterated her willingness to talk to Beijing and also pledged to boost the island's defences including with precision missiles. China again rejected her latest overture, saying the island was an inseparable part of its territory.
DoD inks waiver for deliveries of F-35s, halted over Chinese material. The Pentagon has approved a waiver that would allow Lockheed Martin to resume F-35 deliveries that were halted over the discovery of an alloy made using unapproved materials from China.
RUSSIA THREAT โ UKRAINE WAR
Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 229.ย Missile attacks on โmanyโ Ukrainian cities including the capital Kyiv left people dead and wounded, the country's presidency said on Monday.
MAYBE โONE' WOULDN'T โ A FEW MIGHT โย A tactical Russian nuke wouldn't confer much battlefield advantage, experts say. But the environmental and health effects would be enormous and long-lasting.
Russia unleashes deadly strikes on cities across Ukraine after Crimea bridge attack. The blasts came hours after President Vladimir Putin accused Kyiv of โterrorismโ after the bridge connecting Russia and annexed Crimea was severely damaged in a blast over the weekend.
Kremlin, shifting blame for war failures, axes military commanders. Since the invasion began in February, Russian commanders have been dismissed, demoted and sidelined over military failures, and others have been killed in battle.

NORTH KOREAN THREAT
NKorea confirms simulated use of nukes to โwipe out' enemies. North Korea's recent barrage of missile launches were the simulated use of its tactical battlefield nuclear weapons to โhit and wipe outโ potential South Korean and U.S. targets, state media reported Monday, as its leader Kim Jong Un signaled he would conduct more provocative tests.
INCREASING DANGER? โย North Korea's threat. North Korea has for decades been testing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles in defiance of international demands to stop. North Korea's authoritarian leader, Kim Jong-un, has picked up the pace this year, testing a record number of missiles so far. The North fired 12 in the past two weeks alone, including two early today. Last week, one flew over Japan, the first such launch since 2017, setting off alarms and panicking residents.
NKorea launches 2 missiles toward sea after US-SKorea drills. North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles toward its eastern waters on Sunday, the latest of a recent barrage of weapons tests, a day after it warned the redeployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier near the Korean Peninsula was inflaming regional tensions.
IRAN THREAT
US, UK hold drone drill in Persian Gulf after Iran seizures. The U.S. Navy held a joint drone drill with the United Kingdom on Friday in the Persian Gulf, testing the same unmanned surveillance ships that Iran twice has seized in recent months in the Middle East.
INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
CRISIS ON OUR DOORSTEP โย Haiti set to seek aid from foreign forces amid crises, officials say. Haiti's government is set to seek the assistance of foreign security forces, amid compounding crises that have plunged the country into deepening chaos, two Haitian officials told The Washington Post.
US MILITARY AND SPACE
CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER โย Space Armageddon: Why the Pentagon fears Russia and China's star wars weaponry. Early last month senior Pentagon officials huddled for two days of top secret discussions about Russia and China's space weapons.
