Legislation introduced in New Jersey Thursday seeks to make the Garden State the most anti-Second Amendment jurisdiction in the nation.
Democrat lawmakers in Trenton introduced the proposal. If passed, it would require New Jersey residents to purchase liability insurance and complete safety training before obtaining a firearm. The sweeping gun control bill would also ban guns at 25 kinds of public venues, including bars, beaches and any private establishment that doesn't explicitly welcome the presence of firearms.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) issued the following statement on Twitter regarding the legislation Thursday afternoon:
The New York Times reports that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy intends to sign the legislation into law:
If the bill passes into law, there are sure to be legal challenges. Last week a judge invalidated much of New York's law barring the carrying of guns in some public places, which had been passed in July in response to the Supreme Court decision. New York's attorney general appealed the order, and aย federal appeals court agreedย to let New York keep banning guns in some places while a panel of judges considers whether the law can be kept in place for longer.
Craig J. Coughlin, the Democratic leader of the State Assembly, told Tully that New Jersey Democrats were committed to pushing the legislation forward. The areas where guns would not be permitted, like sports games, he said, were โpretty obvious.โ โRabid football fans. Alcohol. Concealed carry? Doesn't seem like a good recipe,โ he added.
Since the Supreme Court overturned a controversial New York gun control law in June, some 300,000 New Jerseyans have applied for concealed carry permits.
POLITICO has more:
The bill, the broad outlines of which wereย first reported by POLITICOย on Wednesday, is now on the legislative fast track. Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin said it would be heard in committees on Monday and voted on in the lower house on Oct. 27, although Scutari said, โI can't say the same forโ the Senate. He did not elaborate.
Coughlin said the proposal unveiled Thursday would be โmore stringentโ than New York's law, and in a press release, lawmakers said they anticipate a legal challenge should the bill become law.

When you elect people like Phil Murphy and others of his ilk, this is what you get.
WHAT PART OF : “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” DO THESE ILL-BRAINED LEGISLATORS/LAW BREAKERS NOT UNDERSTAND?
They understand it completely, They just don’t think they should be bound by the Constitution.
Stop electing liberal Democrat Socialists and leftists.
Many don’t understand why the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was written. It was first written so the people of this country could defend themselves against a totalitarian government like the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. A government like the one being created in our once free country. And of course it was also intended to help protect our First Amendment to the BILL OF RIGHTS. For you Socialist believers, the way things are going in the U.S. we’re well on the way to being a country with the filthy rich and the dirt poor. Filthy rich? Those in government who rule us. Dirt poor? We the people who once had some freedom but will soon be nothing but subjects instead of citizens.
Actually, the government is was intended to protect against was the US government. The founders KNEW that ANY government would eventually become totalitarian if it could get away with totalitarianism.
The first goal of communism is to disarm the populace, make their children ignorant, control money, transportation and communication. Which of these haven’t been accomplished yet?
