SPACE THREAT
Take the handcuffs off the US Space Force. The Heritage Foundation recently published its โExecutive Summary of the 2023 Index of U.S. Military Strength.โ The reference to the newly formed United States Space Force (USSF) asserts there is โlittle evidence it has improved its readiness to provide nearly real-time support to operational and tactical force operations or that it is ready in any way to execute defensive and offensive counterspace operations to the degree envisioned by Congress.โ
Space Force's โDigital Bloodhound' project will sniff out cyberthreats. The Space Force hopes to choose a developer next June for its nascent Digital Bloodhound program, aimed at improving detection of cyber threats to space ground systems, according to senior Space Systems Command officials.
US MILITARY
18th Airborne Corps' unit returns after rapid response deployment. About 150 soldiers arrived back at Fort Bragg on Tuesday night after an eight-month deployment in Europe.
National Guard struggles with duty status and benefits reform as suicide rates refuse to decline. It seemed like a bit of good news โ new data this week showed a 15% overall drop in suicides among the active-duty military โ but the National Guard has just not seen the same trend.
FIX THEM FIRST! โย Marines say new ACV is the future of amphibious warfare despite 4 flipping in surf off Camp Pendleton in a year. The Marine Corps' new armored Amphibious Combat Vehicles, intended to become the main transport in the future for getting troops and gear from ship to shore, won't be available for their first planned deployment this fall and are now being restricted in water training at Camp Pendleton because of safety concerns.
