Barack Obama and George W. Bush will be holding conferences on the threat of disinformation following former President Donald Trump's expected presidential announcement.
Trump's โbig announcementโ comes despite growing frustration with the former president. A large number of Republicans have expressed their exasperation over his behavior and tendency to embrace harmful conspiracy theories.
As Mediaite reports:
Trump advisorย Jason Millerย confirmedย Trump's โbigโ announcement will be the former president declaring his 2024 candidacy, an announcement some Republicans have beenย pushingย for Trump to hold off on making. Miller at one point even said he advised Trump to wait until the Georgiaย runoff electionย between Sen.ย Raphael Warnockย (D-GA) and Republicanย Herschel Walker.
Axiosย reportedย on Saturday that organizers insist Bush and Obama did not coordinate the timing of their conferences, both of which will focus on โhighlighting rising threats from authoritarianism and disinformation โ and how to combat them globally and at home,โ according to the outlet.
Bush's conference will take place in Dallas on November 16, while Obama's will be in New York on November 17. Bush will interview Ukrainian Presidentย Volodymyr Zelenskyย at his conference. The interview is part of the George W. Bush Institute's The Struggle for Freedomย series. Taiwan Presidentย Tsai Ing-wenย will also be making an appearance through a taped talk.
Obama's event will focus on the โtheย biggest challenges democratic institutions face today,โ according to theย Obama Foundation.
Trump's announcement will come on Nov. 15 at Mar-a-Lago.
At the same time, a new survey suggests that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents have shifted their 2024 presidential candidate preference from Trump to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The Daily Wire adds:
โMore Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents now say they'd prefer DeSantis (42%) as their 2024 presidential nominee over Trump than say they'd prefer Trump to DeSantis (35%),โ the survey found. โThat's a reversal from nearly a month ago, when โ according to a Yahoo News/YouGov poll of U.S. adults โ just 35% preferred DeSantis and 45% said they preferred Trump.โ
