Democrats are sick and tired of their party's increasingly dangerous and radical values.
New York City Democrat councilman, Ari Kagan, announced he switching to the Republican Party due to Democrats' soft-on-crime policies.
According to The Daily Wire, Kagan also announced his intention to challenge Democrat Justin Brannan in next year's general election in the newly-redrawn district.
โOver the last several years in my personal humble opinion, [the] Democratic Party in New York became moving to the left at such a speed that they could not even keep up,โ Kagan said at a press conference on Monday, viaย amNY. โAnd on issue after issue every year, every month, I started to feel that it's not me leaving the Democratic Party, but [the] Democratic Party very quickly started to leave me. Especially on [the] most important issue of the day, public safety.โ
โEvery month I found myself like โwhat am I doing in the Democratic Party?'โ he added. โIn my own district, in southern Brooklyn, everywhere I knocked [on] the doors people saying โwhen are you switching to the Republican Party?โ
While announcing the switch, Kagan admitted that Democrat policy proposals like abolishing solitary confinement prompted his decision.
โI believe right now, the Democratic Party is doing everything possible in New York City to make everybody less safe,โ he said. According to crime statistics from the NYPD, reported byย The Daily Wire, crimes like burglary, grand larceny, and rape decreased by 14%, but other crimes increased. Felony assaults increased 3%; robberies increased 3.6%; car thefts increased by 9.4%; and 30 homicides were reported in the month of November, a 25% increase from the 25 murders reported in November 2021.
Kagan was elected to New York City Council in November 2021. His district represents the neighborhoods of Coney Island, Gravesend and Sea Gate.
โWe're happy to have him as part of our conference,โ Republican New York City Council minority leader Joe Borelli said at the press conference. โAnd I think he'll do a great job serving the people of this district.โ
The latest party switch comes as Republicans have managed to start making inroads in Brooklyn. Republicans flipped three state assembly seats in south Brooklyn.

True swamp creatures probably don’t care what alliance they run under, as long as they can keep getting elected to the swamp.
I’m sick of them all. COS – Convention Of States.
Two questions for Mr. Kagan. Who did the people you represent vote for during the last election for NYC District Attorney? In the last Gubernatorial election, did they vote for the current Governor who fully supports the Democrat soft-on-crime policies and the current DA, or the GOP challenger that rejected those policies and vowed to address the increasing crime problem head on? Just askin’
I don’t trust any democrat that switches party. What’s to say it wasn’t a planned move to vote for what ever the democrats want. This way it looks like a republican voted across the aisle.
Switching party allegiance may make one feel good, but it doesn’t change one’s heart.
