The commander of the 8th Air Force fired two senior commanders and four of their subordinates at Minot Air Force Base.
A press release from Air Force Global Strike Command explained that Maj. Gen. Andrew Gebara relieved Col. Gregory C. Mayer and Maj. Jonathan Welch. The command oversees the Air Force's deployment of nuclear-capable bombers and missiles.
No reason was given for Mayer and Welch's dismissal. The command is not releasing the names of the four subordinate leaders.
Task & Purpose has more:
โTo protect the privacy of the individuals, further details will not be released,โ the news release says.
Mayer, Welch, and the four subordinate leaders were relieved of command โdue to a loss of confidence in their ability to complete their assigned duties,โ Air Force officials said.
The 5th Bomb Wing, which falls under the 8th Air Force, is based at Minot. The wing flies theย B-52H Stratofortress, which is one of the two types of nuclear-capable bombers that the Air Force uses.
No information was available about why Gebara and the other commanders lost confidence in the six individuals.
Minot AFB attracted unwanted attention a decade ago when its missile combat crew performed poorly during an inspection. At the time, a commander in the base's 91st Missile Wing disseminated an internal email complaining of โrotโ and turmoil within the ranks of the missileers.

Could be related to the balloon…
No, it could not be related to the balloon. A BOMBER wing wouldn’t be tasked to shoot down aircraft. Fighters are tasked with that duty.
Maybe, but they would be expected to detect it. Maybe it isn’t, but no explanation makes me hip-shot that thought. More likely related to silo command again.
Yebbut what if it was a scapegoat payback related to the public response to the Chink balloon after the fact? I would not rule ANYTHING out for this dysfunctional administration. Let’s go Brandon!
Politics?? China
It’s the Pentagon trash that needs fired.
