Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) is passing on a run for U.S. Senate.
Walker toldย theย Milwaukee-Journal Sentinelย in an interview that he plans to stay put as chairman of Young America'sย Foundation (YAF), an organization aimed at promoting conservatism to students and young adults, through 2025.ย
Walker, who served two terms as governor, told the publication that he doesn't feel the Senate would be the right fit.
โPlus, I don't see myself in the Senate,โ Walker told the Journal Sentinel. โAfter getting so much done as Governor, I would be bored as Senator.โ
Walker's decision not to pursue the Senate seat deals a blow to Republicans focused on ousting Sen. Tammi Baldwin (D).
According to The Hill, no Republicans have announced plans to run for the seat, though a number of them are expected to give the race a look. One Wisconsin GOP operative mentioned Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), state Sen. Roger Roth (R) and a pair of businessmen โ Eric Hovde and Scott Mayer โ as possible candidates.ย
The former Wisconsin governor has also ruled out a 2024 GOP presidential bid due to his commitment to YAF. However, he has left the door open to a future presidential campaign.
โI'm a quarter-century younger than Joe Biden, so I've got plenty of time,โ Walker, 55, toldย The New York Timesย recently. โBut not in '24.โ
