Space is a national security priority. China and Russia are working hard to expand into the final frontier, leaving us vulnerable to numerous dangers.
AND THANKS IN PART TO TRUMP CREATING THE U.S. SPACE FORCE, IT IS RAPIDLY BUILDING ITS SPACE CAPABILITIES. Space Force crafting framework for commercial fleet access in a crisis. It expects to set an initial framework this summer for how it might take advantage of commercial space capabilities during wartime or crisis.
US Space Command seeks maneuverable, refuellable satellites by 2030. Its leaders say a future where satellites can be refueled and upgraded in orbit for sustained maneuverability could come as soon as 2030.
BUT – The Pentagon is increasingly relying on billionaires' rockets. And it's OK with that. Space Force leaders say carefully written contracts can prevent things like SpaceX's about-face on Ukrainian satellite communications.
AND SOMETIMES THEY CRASH – SpaceX giant rocket explodes minutes after launch from Texas. The rocket exploded minutes after blasting off on its first test flight Thursday and crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

Leftist climate lawsuits endanger military and US national security interests. For decades, the U.S. has stood as a champion for global order and democracy. Our military strength is inextricably linked to a stable energy supply that fuels our aircraft, tanks, and ships, as well as those of our allies, around the world.
NATIONAL SECURITY
Austin seeks to stem discord with allies over document leaks. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sought Friday to tamp down any discord between the U.S. and its allies over the massive leak of classified documents, as he met with defense leaders from around the globe to coordinate additional military aid to Ukraine.
Leaks stir GOP outrage over US troops at embassy in Ukraine. Some Republican lawmakers are expressing outrage over a leaked document showing 14 American special forces are stationed in Ukraine, even though the Pentagon has said for months a small team of Marines are at the embassy.
CHINA THREAT
New legislation would push Pentagon cybersecurity cooperation with Taiwan. The bill comes on the same day the commander of US Indo-Pacific Command knocked down claims that the U.S. aiding Ukraine diminishes the Pentagon's ability to support Taiwan.
RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR
NATO could consider a nuclear deployment of its own to counter Russia. Vladimir Putin's announced plan to put nuclear-capable arms in Belarus may pose risks to NATO's nuclear posture. In the 1980s when Moscow fielded a new missile aimed at Europe and Japan, Ronald Reagan pushed NATO to respond by deploying its own missiles. It might consider this option again.
NATO chief: Ukraine's ‘rightful place' is in the alliance. Jens Stoltenberg defiantly declared Thursday that Ukraine's “rightful place” is in the military alliance and pledged more support for the country on his first visit to Kyiv since Russia's invasion just over a year ago.
Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 422. A Russian fighter jet accidentally fired on the Russian city of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine, causing an explosion and damaging buildings.
