Executives have appointed a seasoned veteran to replace Pat Sajak on โWheel of Fortuneโ after four decades: Ryan Seacrest.
Seacrest, who rose to fame through his syndicated radio program and โAmerican Idolโ hosting gigs, said in a post on social media that he's โtruly humbledโ to follow in Sajak's footsteps.
TMZ has more on his remarks:
This is the grand prize for hosting game shows. โWheel' is one of the most โ if not the most โ successful game show ever. When you add up the viewership, it averages around 20 million a week โฆ making it the biggest show in TV syndication.
โWheel' spans generations. It kicks off Season 41 in September โฆ truly incredible.
Ryan gives major thanks to Pat, adding โI look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition.โ Ryan even calls it a full-circle moment โฆ pointing out one of his first gigs was on the game show โClick,โ another Merv Griffin venture.
Ryan says he's looking forward to working with โthe great Vanna White.โ She has one year left on her contract and is negotiating a new one.
Decades of spins have put Sajak in the pantheon of American TV icons. โWheel of Fortuneโ premiered in 1975 with Chuck Woolery as the original host. Sajak replaced him in 1981.
Co-host Vanna White joined in 1982.
