A new bill approved by the Democrat-controlled Michigan House of Representatives would make it a criminal offense to cause someone to feel โthreatenedโ by your words.
Including the misusing of pronouns.
HB 4474 is now under consideration before the Michigan Senate โ which also has a slight Democrat majority. If it becomes law, offenders will face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Opponents of the hate speech bill have come out in force, saying it infringes on free speech rights.
The Daily Mail continues:
The proposed legislation aims to replace the existing Ethnic Intimidation Act and extends protection against intimidation.
Critics argue that the bill poses a threat to First Amendment rights and lacks clarity in defining โharassment', leaving it open to subjective interpretation.ย
The bill reads as follows: โIntimidate' means a willful course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of another individual that would cause a reasonable individual to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened, and that actually causes the victim to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened.'
If passed, penalties would be based on how the supposed victim and court โfeel' about a particular matter.
Don't forget the local prosecutor.
