The nonpartisan Cook Political Report spelled out some bad news for popular Republican firebrand Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) on Thursday. The report shifted the competitive House district race from โlean Republicanโ to โtoss up.โ
Cook senior editor David Wasserman said the change in the rating came after campaign disclosure reports revealed Boebert's challengerย raised triple in the second quarter.ย
Boebert is preparing for a rematch against Adam Frisch, a Democrat who lost to Boebert in 2022 with a razor-thin margin.
The Hill reported that in the latest second quarter campaign filings, covering April-June disclosures, Frischย raisedย an impressive $2.6 million while Boebert brought in roughly $818,000.ย
Frisch's campaign said earlier this month that his second-quarter fundraising numbers broke the record โfor the largest quarterly fundraising for a U.S. House challenger in the year before an election, excluding special elections and self-funded campaigns.โ
In the first quarter, Frisch also outraised Boebert. He raised $1.7 million, according to his finance disclosure, and Boebert raised about $764,000.ย
โNot only has Boebert avoided taking any steps to moderate her image since coming within 546 votes of losing to former Aspen Councilman Adam Frisch in 2022, Frisch outraised her by a massive $2.6 million to $810,000 in the second quarter thanks to an avalanche of small-dollar donations,โ Wasserman wrote in his analysis, adding that Boebert's recent charge to block the annual defense reauthorization bill over social wedge issues is likely to give Frisch leverage.ย
Wasserman noted, however, that despite his strong fundraising figures, Frisch still has a difficult battle ahead โ as national Republican groups will no longer give Frisch โa free passโ and instead, โlikely to invest heavily to redefine the self-styled moderate as a limousine liberal out of step with the Western Slope.โ
Wasserman also said the 2024 race is likely to be determined by the 80,000 voters who did not vote in the 2022 midterms and who skew independent.
The shift toward Democrats is concerning as Republicans seek to hold on to their slim majority in the House of Representatives.

OK Lauren kick butt now
Im not in Colorado but Ill say this to any/all Coloradoans….KEEP BOEBERT IN.
Rep. Boebert better start defending herself against the barrage of choreographed attacks on social media. Iโm in her district, have met her and chatted at a rally, and REALLY believe in her. The woke Aspen crowd wouldnโt even elect her opponent to mayer, heโs so bad of a person. However, he has promulgated a lot of unwarranted charges (e.g., ignoring needs of veterans, etc.) on various social media that desperately need to be refuted by Rep. Boebertโs staff. FWIW
