Donald Trump will be paying close attention to the upcoming Republican debates.
Trump, who is polling as the GOP front-runner for 2024, has suggested that he doesn't needย to participate in the debates and may choose his running mate based on their performance.
โLet them debate so I can see who I MIGHT consider for Vice President!โ Trumpย wrote on Truth Social. ย
The first debate is slated for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee.ย
According to The Hill, during a recent rally in Erie, Pa., Trump was met with aย chorus of โnoโย when he asked the crowd whether he should take part in the debate.ย
โAm I going to stand up there by guys with zero, 1, 2, 3 percent, maybe 4, and have them ask me hostile questions?โ he asked Saturday.ย
According toย the first New York Times/Siena College pollย of the 2024 campaign, Trump is leading his nearest challenger, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by a landslide 37 percentage points nationally among the likely Republican primary electorate. No other candidate topped 3 percent support in the poll.
