Texas authorities are reporting that UFC fighter Kevin Holland helped take down a gunman at a sushi restaurant in Houston.
Holland, his friend Patrick Robinson and one other customer tackled the gunman after he pulled out a handgun and fired one shot into the air.
Police rushed to the scene after being inundated with calls of a shooting in progress.
The last thing police officers expected to see upon their arrival was the gunman in custody.
ABC 13 reports:
According to HPD Sgt. Ricardo Salas, 40-50 people were inside the restaurant, but had to duck for cover when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired one time into the air.
Three customers rushed the shooter, and likely saved a lot of lives, Salas said.
โWe were eating, and the next thing you know, a gunshot just popped off. So everything paused and then everybody started running to get down under a table,โ said Patrick Robinson, one of the people who stopped the shooter.
Both Holland and Robinson are trained in mixed martial arts.
Police say the suspect is a 24-year-old man who was wanted for failing to appear in court on a criminal mischief charge.
The alleged suspect now faces additional charges of receipt of a stolen firearm and unlawful discharge of a weapon.
Holland reflected on the situation in a parking lot filled with flashing police cars, saying โ[the shooter's] okay, I'm okay, we're okay.โ
