Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig (R) is reportedly preparing to launch a campaign for Michigan's Senate seat.
Craig joins a list of GOP candidates vying to flip the seat after Sen.ย Debbie Stabenowย (D-Mich.)ย announcedย in January that she would not be seeking reelection. (RELATED: Michigan Senator Announces Retirement)
Craig is positioning himself to earn the support of former Presidentย Donald Trump,ย a source told the AP. Craig supports Trump's 2024 presidential bid and recently wrote that with Trump's previous term in office โwas a proud time to be an American.โ

Former Rep.ย Mike Rogersย (R-Mich.)ย announced a bidย to replace Stabenow in early September.
Former Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) isย reportedly considering a campaign, after launching an exploratory committee in August.
Craig spent eight years as the Detroit police chief before retiring in 2021 toย run for governor.
Craig is expected to announce his candidacy for the Senate next week.
