Former president and current GOP front-runner Donald Trump was friends with Geraldo Rivera for decades, although it may be hard to believe now.
Their relationship soured after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, but Rivera largely refrained from commenting on Trump, in contrast to his very public feuds with Fox News personalities like Greg Gutfeld.
All that changed after Trump's xenophobic remarks about illegal immigrants โpoisoning the blood of our countryโ sparked widespread outrage. (RELATED: Fellow Democrat Shreds Squad's Response To Shocking Terror Attack)
โNobody has ever seen anything like we're witnessing right now. It is a very sad thing for our country,โ Trump told Raheem Kassam in a video interview published last week. โIt's poisoning the blood of our country. It's so bad, and people are coming in with disease. People are coming in with every possible thing that you could have.โ
Rivera, whose mother was Jewish, said the comments harken back to the Third Reich. The ex-Fox News host called the quote โdisgusting.โ (RELATED: Fox News Announces New Move For Late-Night Star)
โTo think that this guy was my friend. It is shocking, and I'm so embarrassed the president would say something like โpoisoning the blood of the country.' That is absolutely indefensible,โ he added.
Mediaite has more, including a Republican congressman's reaction to Trump's comments after being questioned by CNN's Wolf Blitzer:
Indiana Rep.ย Larry Bucshonย (R) saidย Donald Trumpย โprobably shouldโ apologize for his xenophobic comments about migrants, which included claiming they were โpoisoning the bloodย of our country.โ
โฆ
โDonald Trump also recently described migrants trying to come into the United States as, quote, poisoning the blood of our country, his words. Poisoning the blood of our country,โ Blitzer emphasized. โAs you know, Congressman, this is the kind of language often used byย White supremacists. Should Trump apologize for saying this?โ
โWell, I think he probably should,โ Bucshon remarked, adding:
I think those words are really outrageous to describe human beings. I was a doctor before I was in Congress. It's a humanitarian crisis down there. And I understand why people want to try to come here to the United States, because we're the best country in the world with the freedom that we have here, but they need to do it legally.
So, yeah, I think it's not appropriate language to be using. These people are human beings just like you and I, and there's reasons why they're coming. I think the Biden administration policies are helping to drive that, and we need to reverse course here. As you see the administration doing this week, realizing that in certain areas of the border, we might need a physical barrier.
A spokesman for Trump, Steven Cheung, defended the remarks to CNN, claiming the 45th president used โa normal phrase that is used in everyday life.โ
โFor anyone to think that is racist or xenophobic is living in an alternate reality consumed with nonsensical outrage,โ Cheung added.
However, the language chosen by Trump echoes statements from German leaders in the World War II era.

F Geraldo, has nothing to do with Jews.
If Trump and his followers were not stupid (unable / unwilling to learn new stuff) and nasty, and ignorant of the history of this country they would be aware that in all areas of crime, undocumented immigrants have the lowest rates of crime, about 1/2 OF WHAT NATIVE BORN CITIZENS HAVE. Or maybe they are just clever and avoid getting caught???
TDS Poster Boy.
“undocumented immigrants have the lowest rates of crime.” not true.
to start. if they entered illegally and / or are undocumented then they have committed a crime. meaning 100% are criminals. don’t think that is anywhere near “1/2 OF WHAT NATIVE BORN CITIZENS HAVE.” that would mean “NATIVE BORN CITIZENS” have a lower crime rate.
second. when you start a statement such as you did makes your statement irrelevant and meaningless. no value to the facts which YOU cannot invalidate.
Geraldo is about as relevant as gas bags Rosie O’Donnell and Michael Moore.
And how often have THEY made headlines recently???
