On June 23, a paper on the underreporting of firearm ownership was published in the Journal “Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology.” The title is “Predicting potential underreporting of firearm ownership in a nationally representative sample”, hereafter referred to as “the paper”. The paper indicated the number of people who refuse to report they are firearm owners, who have been called “shy” firearms owners, are about as numerous as firearms owners who are willing to identify themselves as such. For years, there was no federally funded research looking at gun violence. The CDC said federal law prohibited it, blaming the Dickey Amendment. That amendment, though, didn’t prevent research. It barred the use of federal money for gun control advocacy, which is certainly a noble goal. After all, gun control is a controversial subject. Tuscon, AZ – A Tucson woman shoots a sex offender, with a handgun, who had tried to break into her home and disarm her. A 54-year-old woman living just outside of Tucson, Arizona didn’t really want to have to shoot a neighbor who tried to force entry to her residence, but the man didn’t give her many options.
