ANALYSIS – We have recently been seeing quite a bit of news about U.S. and Russian โ€˜doomsdayโ€™ planes. These are the special, hardened command and control aircraft tasked with coordinating a nuclear war from the skies by the nationsโ€™ top leadership. Both the United States and the Russian Federation have them, and with the saber-rattling coming from both Russia and North Korea, and maybe soon Iran, they have been getting a lot of press. The most recent reports noted that a planned flyover by a Russian โ€˜Doomsdayโ€™ plane designed to protect Vladimir Putin in the event of a nuclear attack was dropped from Russia’s May 9…

It has been six months since outspoken liberal actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his low-budget western โ€œRust.โ€ As Iย noted earlier, while Baldwin may not be charged with manslaughter, he fired the old west revolver and as a producer, it was his movie. It was also widely reported,ย as I wrote about here, that basic safety precautions on the set were not being followed, even provoking a walk-out by some crew members. And Baldwin was using a young inexperienced gun armorer, usually responsible for gun safety on movie sets. On April 10, 2022, the producers,…

ANALYSIS – In the latest news on the โ€˜gun violenceโ€™ front, a major liberal-leaning think tank reportย recommends numerous solutionsย to the โ€˜gun violenceโ€™ surge plaguing our nationโ€™s capital. And in a typically written news story, the reporter sees no irony in repeatedly using the liberal โ€˜gun violenceโ€™ term even when none of the solutions being proposed have anything to do with guns. (RELATED: As Gun Sales Soared, the Number of Violent Crimes Committed With Guns Plummeted) In the old days, it was simply called violence, or โ€˜shooting,โ€™ if you wanted to be more specific. Now it is โ€˜gun violence.โ€™ All part…

This past weekend saw a massive Chinese naval exercise that virtually surrounded the self-governing island republic of Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China (ROC). Communist Chinaโ€™s Peopleโ€™s Liberation Army (PLA) and communist state media reported on the major drill some calledย a โ€œrehearsal of possible real action.โ€Chinaโ€™s Global Times (GT), a mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) provided the most details on the much-hyped drill when it reported that: The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) recently held a large-scale joint exercise surrounding the island of Taiwan from both sides, a move that experts said on Monday demonstrated and…

ANALYSIS – In its latest report on ongoing threats to the U.S. and global security, the Washington, D.C.-basedย Center for American Defense Studiesย (CADS), which I lead, hasย just released a reportย on the North Korean army. The author, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel with significant experience analyzing the Northโ€™s war machine reached some interesting conclusions. In effect, Lt. Col Charles Schlom, a career Army aviator, and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the Hermit Kingdomโ€™s military, argues that โ€” its nukes and missiles notwithstanding โ€” the North Korean army is a massive (well over one million men), but poorly equipped, trained and led,…

Communist China has been effectively employing a vast fleet of low-tech,ย lightly armed government vessels and dual-use civilian craftย and naval militias to expand and dominate large swaths of the Western Pacific. Until now, the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard could only respond to this โ€˜Gray Zoneโ€™ armada with small deck guns, scarce heavy torpedoes or expensive anti-ship missiles and line-of-sight laser-guided bombs. That equation has now changed as the Pentagon has shown off its latest low-tech 2,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) โ€“ appropriately named โ€˜QUICKSINK,โ€™ in an impressive live-fire demonstration in the Gulf of Mexico. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmfRi2Vl3JQ This ubiquitous bomb can be…
