Weeks after his Poland visit, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares joins an elite list of American leaders sanctioned by the Russian Federation. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares was included in an elite list of American leaders and political figures as being sanctioned by the Russian President Vladimir Putin according to a press release from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Miyares, who had recently completed visits to Poland and Israel, is the sole Virginia statewide political figure targeted by the Russian government, outpacing both Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) and Senator Mark Warner (D-Virginia) who serves on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.…

Last week, TRS had the opportunity to follow the Lieutenant Governor as she toured the Richmond Slave Trail, which included not only the site of the notorious Lumpkins Slave Jail but also the site where Gabriel Prosser was executed and presumably buried in 1800. During the tour, one could not be helped but to hear two narratives. The first emphasizing the truth of what happened in Richmond during the slave trade, particularly as chattel slavery became Virginia’s primary export during the mid-19th century. The second was the nature of the word “enslavement” and what it entailed — with the tour guides expressing…

“The first wall to fall was pushed over in 1980 in the Polish shipyards. Later, other symbolic walls came down, and the Germans, of course, tore down the literal wall in Berlin. The fall of the Berlin Wall makes for nice pictures. But it all started in the Gdansk shipyards.” — Lech Walesa on the Fall of the Berlin Wall (2009) First and foremost, today marked the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I remember watching this on live television as reporters were at first incredulous that it was even happening followed up with reports that Berliners —…

Cao’s campaign team is working hard towards the finish; Wexton’s campaign just wants it to be over. There are any number of reasons why Hung Cao should win in VA-10. Honor, integrity, character — Cao checks off all the boxes. There’s something else as well. If you ask around, the one thing people tell you about Cao is that he gives a damn — an intangible you simply cannot buy. Cao’s opposition is Rep. Jennifer Wexton, a Pelosi-acolyte whose assuredness that VA-10 would always be a Democratic seat has been reflected in her lackluster campaign style. Speculation that Wexton’s health…

The Biden White House isn’t precisely exuding leadership at present. Like Notre Dame playing Alabama bad. From Biden’s press conference on Wednesday afternoon: https://twitter.com/jameshohmann/status/1483915605522763776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1483915605522763776%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftherepublicanstandard.com%2Ffeatured%2Fbiden-tells-ukrainians-they-are-going-to-lose-hopes-they-kill-a-ton-of-russians-before-they-do%2Fcicero%2F2022%2F01%2F That’s gotta be comforting to read in Kiev. Of course, given that Berlin isn’t exactly playing ball with her NATO allies at present and that the Russians vast cash reserves should effectively insulate them from any serious consequences due to sanctions, it’s hard to see why the Russian Federation — should they choose to invade Ukraine — would not go all the way to the Polish border and possibly into the Baltic States in order to…

In Washington, the debate over the racially charged Democratic vote rigging bill is already making national waves. As the Virginia General Assembly kicks off and the Democrats wring their hands over how much of their woke progressive agenda they can maintain now that they don’t have Governor Northam to abuse, the question remains as to how much longer Virginia Democrats are going to chain themselves to the Critical Race Theory millstone. In Washington, the debate over the racially charged Democratic vote rigging bill is already making national waves as Senate Democrats are rejecting President Biden’s plan wholeheartedly as a losing…

Democrats behave as partisans; Republicans are expected to behave as citizens… until we behave like partisans, too. January 6th, 2021 was no high-water mark for America by any stretch. Nor was September 4th, 2018. We don’t talk much about September 4th, but in case people need reminding, September 4th was the day where yet another moment where a violent mob attempted to storm the U.S. Capitol in order to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power — this time at the behest of Democratic politicians and pressure organizations such as Planned Parenthood in order to stop Brett Kavanaugh’s hearings before the Senate Judiciary…

Rather than manipulate the public, why can’t our elected leaders treat us as adults capable of making our own decisions? Not a good start to the Christmas… er, I mean holiday… um… non-gender binary anti-patriarchal week of non-exclusionary trans-inclusive gathering season. First, Senator Joe Manchin puts the final nail in the coffin of the Build Back Better tax schematic — a combination of fiscal realities, doing what is best for West Virginia, and 6% inflation which will only be made worse through yet another round of multi-trillion dollar government spending programs. Turns out, cutting a pizza into eight pieces rather than six doesn’t magically make…

Your mindful infographic of the day vis a vis the impending Russian invasion of Ukraine. One suspects the Russians could (and will) take most of Novorossiya as well as Kiev within a month—that is, unless there is substantial assistance from NATO. Biden is proposing sanctions, a dangerous gambit that long-term pushes Russia into the arms and orbit of China. The sword is double-edged for the Russians—sure they may retake the Ukraine (in part or in whole), but probably not all of it.
