Following the latest mass shooting, a Republican in Congress has revealed their support for an assault weapons ban.
Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.) held a press conference where he announced, โI want to be completely transparent of where I am in Congress. If an assault weapons ban bill came to the floor that would ban something like an AR-15, I would vote for it.โ
WATCH:
Jacobs added that he supports restrictions on high capacity magazines, telling reporters, โWhy does a civilian need a 30 or 50-round magazine either for recreation or hunting? I believe something along the lines of 10 is perfectly reasonable.โ
Jacobs will introduce legislation to ban body armor for civilian use. The congressman said he'll name his bill after retired Buffalo police officer Aaron Salter. Salter was killed in the recent Buffalo supermarket shooting when he exchanged fire with the gunman, who was wearing a bulletproof vest and ballistic helmet.
Spectrum News 1 has more on Jacobs' gun control stance:
Finally, the congressman said he would support raising the age to purchase an AR-15 style rifle from 18 to 21.
โIndividuals cannot buy beer, they cannot get cigarettes (until they're) 21. I think it's perfectly reasonable that the age limit, at least for these highly lethal, high capacity, semiautomatic weapons should be 21,โ Jacobs said.
The Republican laid out his stance after fellow congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin left the press conference. Zeldin was there supporting current Jacobs legislation to provide more funding for school resource officers.
The candidate did say he opposes gun reform proposed by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, including microstamping ammunition and raising the age to buy assault rifles.
Jacobs represents New York's 27th Congressional District, which borders the City of Buffalo on three sides. He first won a special election in 2020 after incumbent Republican Rep. Chris Collins pled guilty to insider trading and resigned from the House.

WTF. Jacobs didn’t “revealed their support”, HE revealed HIS support.
If American Liberty is going woke, I’ll mark you as spam.
Yeah; I noticed that too. I concur with Geezer117.
Another NY RINO. Did you consider 18 year old have to register for the draft and can join the military where the shoot full automatics.
Funny how everybody is drinking the kool-aid claiming it’s the guns not the shooter
We already have an assault weapons ban…you cannot buy a fully automatic weapon without extensive background check and a mound of paperwork. An AR-15 is not an assault rifle and AR stands for the manufacturer, not assault rifle.
Jacobs did not do any research. Hand guns are the weapon of choice in most attacks not so called assault weapons. Politicians should learn to keep their traps shut until they know what they are talking about. We must start to vote the dopes out before they completely destroy this country.
I tried to leave a comment but you failed to post it. It is par for the course.
If 18 year oolds still need to register for the draft, they should have the right to buy guns.
Guns don’t kill people, People kill people, that has not changed.
We have plenty laws about gun ownership, just enforce what we already have!
American Liberty News can drop the word “respected” from the headline on this article.
Ban RINO’s and democrats. The problem with voting is sometimes idiots get what they voted for. . . .
AR, AR-15, does not stand for โAssault Rifeโ, AR stands for โARMALITE RIFLEโ.. know your guns. When they ban AR-15, they are banning โRiflesโ all rifles!!
Why would you call this anti American, โrespectedโ?
Another rino kissing up to Democrats. If that is the way he feels, the process is to change the Constitution and repeal the 2nd Amendment. Whether it is unconstitutional laws or judicial activism, Democrats and rinos are all the same, cheat, lie and steal. Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.
