Michigan's senior Senator has announced that she will not seek re-election at the end of her current term.
Senator Debbie Stabenow made the declaration today via a media release issued by her congressional office.
In the release, Stabenow also added the following sentiment:
“As part of my own new generation, I was elected to the Ingham County Commission in 1974 at the age of 24. As the youngest and first woman to chair the Board, this began years of breaking barriers, blazing trails, and being the ‘first' woman to reach historic milestones as an elected official, including the honor of being the first woman from Michigan elected to the U.S. Senate. But I have always believed it's not enough to be the ‘first' unless there is a ‘second' and a ‘third'….”
Stabenow's retirement leaves open up a key senate seat. Her 2018 re-election campaign was the closest Senate race in Michigan since 2000. Stabenow defeated Republican John James by a margin of 275,660 votes or 6.50%.
Mike Berg, Communications Director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) issued the following statement today on the news of Stabenow's retirement.

I am against abortion, but we have more pressing things happening in this country now, number one is survival. This is no joke, the way things are going what we are used to may disappear and the land scape changed for ever. Look what has happened in two years, unbelievable. How did all these crack pots get on the same wave length? I agree with vet comment 100%.
