The infighting between House Republicans is just heating upโฆ
As House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) defends his position from hardline conservatives led by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz it seems some House Republicans are taking measures into their own hands. Recent reports indicate some members are preparing to file a motion to expel Rep. Gaetz from Congress pending the result of an ongoing Ethics investigation.
American Liberty News reported over the summer that investigators are currently โfocused on allegations that he may have engaged in sexual misconduct, illicit drug use or other misconduct.โ
Fox News reported on Sunday that House Republican members โwill seek to expel Gaetz if the ethics committee report comes back with findings of guilt.โ
โNo one can stand him at this point,โ one member told Fox News. โA smart guy without morals.โ
Gaetz took the brunt of criticism last week over his handling of a short-term funding bill that would have kept the U.S. government open and included โa spending reduction, money for border security, and a commission on the growing federal debt,โ The Wall Street Journal Editorial Boardย noted.
However, Gaetz and a small faction of hardline conservatives ultimately rejected the package forcing Republicans to cut a deal with Democrats to keep the government open.
โThe only way he can be successful is if he has 200 plus Democrats,โ Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO)ย saidย during an interview on Sunday. โBasically, Gaetz is going to work with Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, and the rest of the Democrats in order to remove the Republican speakerโฆ If you remove a Republican speaker, that then puts the Democrats in power, these investigations will be done and stalled. That is unacceptable of Matt Gaetz.โ
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has also sounded off on the ongoing drama surrounding the Florida lawmaker.
Gingrich posted on X: โIs Gaetz secretly an agent for the Democratic Party? No one else is doing as much to undermine, weaken and cripple the House GOP.โ
On Sunday, Gingrich said fully expelling Gaetz from the lower chamber could be a โstep too Farโ but appeared open to the idea of booting Gaetz from the House GOP conference and his committee assignments as a more โrational response.โ
โThe effort to expel Matt Gaetz for being a destructive, irresponsible anti-Republican may be a step too far,โ Gingrich wrote on X, formerly Twitter. โExpulsion from the House requires a two thirds vote.โ
โHowever expelling him from the House Republican Conference and eliminating all his committee assignments and all resources other than those an individual member is entitled to would be a rational response to his suicidal efforts to cripple the House GOP,โ Gingrich continued.
According to theย House Republican Conference rulesย set for the 118th Congress, it takes a two-thirds vote to expel a GOP member from the conference.
To remove a member from a standing committee, the House is required to vote on a resolution for removal.

RINOs continue to play right into the hands of the Democrat Crooks…
They want to eliminate the America First guy! The one that truly stands with Trump and the American people! This would be a very serious mistake!
Standing with Gaetz and Trump!
It’s about time the Republicans stood up to Gaetz and tossed him.
So, Tom, you want to keep that border open, huh? You’re a gold-medal moron.
It’s about time this punk got schooled ! He has no idea or ignores the procedures of the House Speaker and congress. He’s like the class bully that wants things his way regardless of who is hurt by it. I hope they reprimand him hard to teach him a lesson. His fathers is thinking of running for office in Fl. Pray that he’s more knowledgeable than his son.
