The lead sponsors of the legislation are Senator Roger Roger Marshall, M.D. of Kansas, and John Kennedy of Louisiana. A House compliment to the bill has also been introduced by Congressman Andrew Clyde of Georgia's 9th Congressional District.
Other original cosponsors of the bill include the following Senators: Barrasso (Wyoming), Boozman (Arkansas), Crapo (Idaho), Cruz, (Texas), Daines (Montana), Hyde-Smith (Mississippi), Kennedy (Louisiana), Lee (Utah), Lummis (Wyoming), Mullin (Oklahoma), Paul (Kentucky), Risch (Idaho), Scott (Florida), Thune (South Dakota), and Tubberville (Alabama).
As noted by the Daily Caller, the legislation would do the following:
โremove the taxation, registration and regulation in the National Firearms Act (NFA) for firearms such as Short-Barreled Rifles (SBR), Short-Barreled Shotguns (SBS) and Any Other Weapons (AOW).โ
In a media release distributed by Senator Marshall's office, Jason Ouimet, the Executive Director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) lauded the Senators' actions:
โThe NRA is proud to stand with Sen. Marshall and support the Stop Harassing Owners of Rifles Today (SHORT) Act. Given the ATF's most recent assault on the Second Amendment, this important legislation will protect the right of law-abiding Americans to choose the firearm that best suits their needs while eliminating an outdated and onerous taxing and registration scheme. If passed, American gun owners will no longer have to fear the unconstitutional and arbitrary reinterpretations of the law by unelected, anti-gun bureaucrats. The NRA thanks Sen. Marshall for his unwavering support of the Second Amendment and his leadership in introducing these commonsense reforms.โย
This bill was also previously introduced last September during the 118th Congress.

I’LL believe it when i see it!!!
This is a good first step if it happens. But what REALLY needs to happen is legislation that makes it clear all these government agencies have NO lawmaking power. The Constitution gives that power to Congress and ONLY Congress. Even then it is limited.
Using cute tricks, like calling them ‘rules’ or ‘regulations’ when they function exactly as any other law doesn’t make them anything else but laws.
I know, the communists and socialists won’t like this, but hey it is a constitutional republic.
