NATIONAL SECURITY
HE ALREADY IS โย Joe Biden Has Only Days to Avoid Becoming Jimmy Carter. By Niall Ferguson. Rampant inflation, foreign policy fiascoes and failed sanctions โ is America back in a national malaise? It is just over a year since some eminent historians were comparing Joe Biden to Franklin Roosevelt or Lyndon Johnson and hailing the advent of a โtransformativeโ presidency. My response at the time was that it was more likely to be a reprise of Jimmy Carter's. This is starting to look as good a prediction as my Jan. 2 call that war was coming to Ukraine.
This week in Congress: Biden's State of the Union amid Russia's war on Ukraine. White House officials have not offered any public previews of the speech yet, but Biden is expected to discuss the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan last summer, the recent Russian military offensive in Ukraine, and the incomplete fiscal 2022 federal budget still pending before Congress.

China's reaction to Ukraine could be putting its citizens in danger. Chinese citizens in Ukraine find themselves in a tense situation as plans for an evacuation from the war-torn country โ set in motion weeks after Western nations urged their citizens to leave โ have stalled, leaving those who remain wary about potential backlash over China's reaction to the Russian invasion.

RUSSIA THREAT
New NATO multinational battlegroup in Slovakia will include Patriot missile air defense system. A new NATO multinational battlegroup that includes the Patriot missile air defense system will be set up in Slovakia, officials announced Saturday.
Which countries are sending military aid to Ukraine? More than a dozen countries have pledged or provided the invaded country with various forms of military aid, with more expected to chip in as the conflict continues.

IRAN THREAT
Iran says three key issues remain unresolved in Vienna nuclear talks. Iran said on Monday that reviving a 2015 nuclear deal is possible if Western powers take a political decision to resolve three remaining issues, as indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington enter a crucial stage.
HOMELAND SECURITY
Sailor accused of torching USS Bonhomme Richard will go to court-martial, Navy decides. According to the sailor's defense attorney, the legal officer who presided over the preliminary hearing recommended that the case not go to trial.
