Earlier today an armed suspect clad in body armor tried to break into the FBI's Cincinnati field office.
He was fortunately unsuccessful and ended up leading Ohio State Police on a pursuit, ending in nearby Clinton County where an hours-long standoff ensued.
Officers on the scene traded shots with the suspect, who's been identified by some outlets as Ricky Walter Shiffer. The dangerous situation prompted a lockdown for everyone within a one-mile radius. It also shut down prominent thoroughfares and highways, including traffic in both directions on Interstate 71.
CNN has more on the failed negotiations and the suspect's death:
Lt. Nathan Dennis said that after negotiations failed, law enforcement officers tried to take suspect into custody, but the suspect raised a gun at authorities and was fatally shot.
Dennis didn't give the suspect's name but a law enforcement source told CNN earlier that authorities had learned the suspect's identity.

An Ohio state trooper spotted the suspect's vehicle at a northbound rest stop along Interstate 71 about 20 minutes after the attempted breach, Dennis said, and tried to initiate a traffic stop before the suspect fled.
โThe suspect vehicle did fire shots during that pursuit,โ Dennis said in the earlier news conference. The suspect then exited onto State Route 73 and traveled east to Smith Road, where he headed north before eventually coming to a stop.
The gunman reportedly fled the FBI office after his presence activated an alarm and swift response by armed FBI agents.
According to reports, he was armed with an AR-15 and a nail gun.

Nail gun? Hmmmm, now I’m sure we’ll have to register our nail guns. I wonder if they’ll want to ban just the black ones or all nail guns.
No shortage of CRAZY!
I’m sorry to hear the nail-gunman’s life was taken. I’m sure he was just so infuriated with our criminal FBI and present government that he just went nuts. I would have liked to have heard his story.
Anyone attacking any law enforcement agency is crazy!
