A professional ice hockey star finds himself in scalding hot water after threatening to have the police officers arresting him assassinated with โone phone callโ to Russia.
Officers took Alex Galchenyuk into custody last Sunday after a hit-and-run in Scottsdale, Arizona. Though born in the United States, Galchenyuk is of Belarusian descent, spent much of his youth in Russia and has said he has connections in Moscow.
According to police, he told the officers โone phone callโ to Russia โand you're all dead, your whole family, your whole bloodline is dead.โ (RELATED: Russian Spies Attempting Targeted Assassinations On US Soil)
The threats didn't end there, as Fox News reports:
โI'm gonna chop you, your wife, your daughter,โ Galechnyuk said to one officer, according to the police report.
Galchenyuk also is alleged to have used a racial slur toward an officer in training during his apparent outburst. Police said Galchenyuk told officers he was joking about the threats.
Galchenyuk faces charges of private property hit-and-run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest and threatening or intimidating. (RELATED: Controversial Military Commander Dies Exercising โ Was It A Huge Mistake?)
The Arizona Coyotes intend to terminate his contract. The Coyotes announced Thursday they had placed the forward on unconditional waivers to do so.
Galchenyuk signed a contract with the club eight days before his arrest.
The 29-year-old was drafted third overall in the 2012 NHL draft.
