Former Trump attorney John Eastman turned himself into the Fulton County jail Tuesday morning.
Eastman, who helped lead efforts to overturn the 2020 election, was the second of 19 defendants to surrender to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.
The lawyer faces nine charges linked to the Georgia probe, ranging from conspiring to commit false statements and writings, and forgery, to state Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act charges. He was given a prisoner identification number Tuesday and is currently detained, according to The Hill.
โI am here today to surrender to an indictment that should never have been brought,โ Eastman said in a statementย posted to his attorneys' website. โIt represents a crossing of the Rubicon for our country, implicating the fundamental First Amendment right to petition the government for redress of grievances.โย
On Monday, Eastman signed aย $100,000 bond agreementย with the Fulton County district attorney's office.
District Attorneyย Fani Willisย (D) gave the defendants until Friday at noon to surrender themselves. Former President Donald Trumpย indicated on Monday that he plans to turn himself in on Thursday. (RELATED: Trump Agrees To Release Conditions, Including $200,000 Bond)
