A boutique in Beverly Hills that caters to cancer patients received the shock of a lifetime last week.
A security camera recorded three masked assailants breaking into The Wig Fairy, a store that serves women and children undergoing chemotherapy.
The custom wigs are made of human hair, with each customer selecting their preferred texture and color, and worth thousands of dollars. (RELATED: Life In California: Judge Robbed In Broad Daylight Across The Street From Oakland Courthouse)
Mona Zargar, the owner, spoke to local news outlets about how her business and cancer patients, hoping to look and feel more like themselves, have been affected.
As the Daily Mail reports:
โThey come to us and say, โPlease make me look like myself,โ she toldย NBC-4ย Tuesday after closing her store to assess what was stolen and straighten out orders for affected patrons โ working around the clock to do so.
โHow do I explain to them that I don't have a wig for you?' she said, remarking how the took more than just inventory from her dozens of loyal customers.
โWe had to make such heartfelt phone calls today. Calling clients and letting them know that โI'm so sorry that you've waited but I can no longer ship you the wig and I need you to wait again'โฆ which is not normally the answer.'
She went on to cite the time-sensitive nature of her clients' orders, and the fact that each piece โ made of 100 percent human hair โ take weeks to create.
โWe do color them to match their skin tones to what their natural hair looks,โ a visibly emotional Zargar said on camera. โWe cut them according to their face shape. We cut them to fit their heads.โ
โIf someone is going through treatment, they're expecting their hair to fall out pretty much on the second treatment. So they don't have time to wait,โ she added.
The perpetrators are still at large. (RELATED: Lawsuit Filed Over California Law Requiring All Doctors To Confess To Racism)
The brazen heist followed a smash-and-grab robbery at a nearby Nordstrom. Robbers used bear mace to disable a security guard and stole $300,000 in merchandise.
Local law enforcement officials blame the rise in heists on increasing organized crime and Los Angeles County's implementation of cashless bail. (RELATED: Rapper 50 Cent Says โLA Is Finished' After City Revolutionizes Bail Policy)
