Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events on day 61. Ukrainian officials say Russian forces attempted to storm the Azovstal steel plant, the main remaining Ukrainian stronghold in Mariupol, adding that more than 1,000 civilians are also sheltering there. Russia has deployed Iskander-M mobile battlefield missile launchers within 60km (40 miles) of the Ukrainian border, Ukraine's military says. Each of the system's two ballistic missiles has a range of up to 500km (300 miles) and can carry conventional or nuclear warheads.
Russia-Ukraine live news: Moscow intensifies attacks beyond east. Ukraine will try to establish humanitarian routes out of the besieged port city of Mariupol on Monday, says Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. Russian cruise missiles hit two towns in the southwestern Ukrainian region of Vinnytsia, its governor said.
INTERESTING โย Calling all weapons makers: Pentagon seeks new ideas to arm Ukraine. In its effort to quickly arm Ukraine against Russia, the Pentagon has announced the equivalent of an open casting call for companies to offer weapons and commercial systems that can be rushed to the fight.

Niger approves re-deployment of more European special forces from Mali. Niger lawmakers on Friday approved a bill allowing the deployment of more European special forces to help stem a jihadist insurgency across the Sahel, a move rejected by some parties that opposeย Western military influence.
El Salvador extends emergency powers to fight gangs. El Salvador's Congress on Sunday approved a month-long extension of emergency measures that rights groups say infringe on civil liberties butย which President Nayib Bukele has said are necessary after a surge of gang killings.
US MILITARY AND SPACE

BIDEN'S BIZARRE TOP NATIONAL SECURITY PRIORITY โย Pentagon marks Earth Day 2022 with push for funding to combat climate change. The Department of Defense is using Friday's celebration of Earth Day to push for reduced energy consumption across the military, as well asย encourage Congress to fund a raft of programs that would help the agency prepare for and reduce its impact on climate change.
COOLย โย Space Fence now has a direct link to key Space Force data hub. The U.S. Space Force announced Friday its cloud-based dataย environment can now ingest observation information directly from the Space Fence radar, demonstrating its ability to connect with sensor nodes in the Space Surveillance Network.
