California dreamin'? Not for this Silicon Valley school district.
In an effort to combat unaffordable housing costs, Milpitas Unified School District is asking parents to rent rooms to educators being forced to leave the city.
According to The Hill:
โWe've lost out on some employees that we tried to recruit because once they see how much it costs to live here, they determine that it's just not possible,โ Milpitas Unified School District Superintendent Cheryl Jordan told a localย NBC affiliateย in August.ย
The district noted in a July resolution that โthe gap between those who can afford a home in the San Francisco Bay Area and those who cannot, is widening at an alarming rate, with some having to hold part-time jobs to meet monthly housing expenses, and affordable rental housing is in short supply.โย
โMilpitas Unified School District supports partnerships involving homebuilders, community groups, and local governments to enhance affordability and to increase production of affordable workforce housing,โย the resolution read.ย
The median price of a home in Milpitas is around $1.4 million, according toย an analysisย from the real estate company Redfin.ย Average rental costs have also soared in Milpitas, jumping more than 10% over the last year toย $2,757 for a one-bedroom unit.
However, the blatantly bizarre scenario of renting a room to a teacher due to unaffordable housing costs seems just bizarre enough for some California families.
Jordan told NBC Bay Area that multiple people have expressed interest in participating in the program.
โSo far, we've had 34 respondents who are interested in providing a room or small space on their property for our educators if needed,โ Jordan said.
Over the pandemic, California saw its residents leaving the state in droves due to sky-high costs of living and authoritarian policies enacted by leftist politicians who couldn't be bothered to follow their own rules.
In 2021, a study found a 38% decrease in people moving to California at the end of September 2021 compared to the end of March 2020. The study found a 12% increase in residents moving out of state. The study noted some of the biggest changes were seen in cities in the San Fransisco Bay Area, where Milpitas Unified School District is.
There was a 45% decrease in entrances from other states to the Bay Area and a 21% increase in residents leaving for other states.

Maybe it’s time to train real teachers and give them a real salary.
If so many people are leaving California, shouldn’t rents be going down????
Keep electing idiots like Newscum and you’ll keep rotting away.
