While Antifa domestic terror cells burned crisis pregnancy centers and left-wing hordes stalked Supreme Court justices outside their homes, the FBI sent undercover informants to spy on a pro-life organization, two Texas Republican lawmakers reveal.
Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) and Sen. Ted Cruz are demanding Attorney General Merrick Garland explain why the FBI allegedly secretly surveilled recent meetings of the pro-life group Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU).
PAAU is a liberal-leaning pro-life group.
โPro-life group Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) recently alleged on Twitter that an undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) informant secretly recorded their meeting,โ Roy and Cruz write in a letter to Garland.
โ'Eric Mike Santos' attended and taped a pro-life meeting at the Watergate hotel in Washington, D.C. on January 19, 2023, according to the group,โ Roy and Cruz write. โThe recording was then used in federal court as evidence that PAAU Director of Activism, Lauren Handy, violated her terms of release.โ
Handy had been arrested for delivering roses to women about to undergo abortions and baptizing and blessing the bodies of over 100 aborted children.
The terms of her release on those charges required her to not enter an abortion center.ย Recordings made by โSantosโ were used to accuse Handy of violating those terms.
โThe recording played during the Feb. 21 trial showed Handy speaking about plans for a โnonviolent direct action tactic' on Jan. 21 called #PinkRoseRescue, which involves activists handing out roses and resources inside a clinic building,โ the Daily Caller reports. โHandy did not intend to participate in the event herself, according to PAAU.โ
Group members were immediately suspicious of โSantos,โ who arrived at the meeting wearing a black mask and asked probing questions at the meeting and on social media, prompting one member to call him โMr. Federal Agent.โ
Handy and her group explicitly reject violence and cite pacifism and non-violence as the basis of their pro-life views.
โAllegations that the FBI is spying on pro-life gatherings in tandem with the rise in high-profile FBI investigations into pro-life Americans raise well-founded concerns for millions of Americans,โ Roy and Cruz write.
They add, โThe American people deserve the truth โ are their tax dollars and federal law enforcement agencies being used to spy on pro-life Americans?โ
