New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has unveiled a new plan to investigate social media platforms promoting online extremism and โcombat domestic terrorismโ through executive orders to reinforce state gun laws.
The measures, announced on Hochul's official Twitter account Wednesday afternoon, come five days after a white gunman killed 10 people and injured three others at a supermarket on Buffalo's east side. Eleven of the victims were black.
Hochul also gave marching orders to the New York State Police. The Democratic governor wants the state police to create a unit devoted to monitoring the spread of hate speech online and to retrieve all weapons under the state's red flag law from individuals deemed a danger to themselves or others.
The New York Post reports:
Hochul โ who just hours before the shooting suggested to The Post that her anti-crime legislative efforts were done for the year โ is also pushing for state lawmakers to pass several pieces of legislation.
One bill would require that semi-automatic handguns made or sold in New York include features that would mark ammunition with a microstamp after it is fired, which would help law enforcement better investigate gun crimes.
Other legislation would require law enforcement to report within 24 hours any firearm they recover from a crime scene. Hochul is also pushing a new bill that would expand the definition of firearms to include additional types of guns.
Law enforcement officials in New York's Broome County questioned the gunman in 2021 for threatening his classmates. When asked by a teacher about his post-graduation plans, he allegedly said, โI want to murder and commit suicide.โ He was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation and underwent counseling. While in the hospital, the future mass murderer told police officers he was joking. The hospital staff decided to discharge him after a day and a half. Because his stay didn't qualify as an involuntary commitment, he could still purchase guns under federal law.
Investigators at the time didn't consider his threats specific enough to warrant further action.

Attacks on free speech such as this, far from being the threat they believe it to be, should be a call to arms for all Americans to fight tooth and nail, these traitors, these Marxist terrorists, who may not shoot you, but will use your laws and the guns they control in the police and military to bring an end to your way of life. It doesn’t matter that their arguments are rooted in their political agenda to make you defenseless. It doesn’t matter that they are backed up by our enemies, world wide and communist organizations in this country. We must fight them on every front. This is the kind of speech they want to end because it would mean an end to their coup, their revolution, but we must prevail, not them.
Another Demonrat commiecrat pushing their communist agenda.
Arrest Kathy Hochal for her hate against New Yorkers and Americans.

How can one state elect so many incompetent politicians?? How can State Police fight hate speech? They must first define what hate speech might look like or sound like hate speech. Who generates and documents these definitions? Who is the adjudicator and will all cases need to go to court to obtain a ruling? How will they separate the first amendment rights of freedom of speech from hate speech?
Is this governor providing adequate resources at all levels of her government to implement the infrastructure in order to implement? As an American citizen, I will demand a clear definition of hate speech and clear examples. Without this, there will be no basis for enforcement.
She better start with the hate language being spewed by the President.
Hey cath, the buffalo shooter made a threat over a year ago to go shoot up his school. You, cuomo and Xi den did absolutely nothing. Oh, umm, btw, he is a registered progressive dem.
You want to solve crime in NY state. Give every legal resident the right to a background check and concealed carry permit for those that pass.
