Geraldo Rivera, a well-known television host and Fox News personality, has confirmed his retirement. Rivera's announcement follows a period of speculation after he revealed he left โThe Fiveโ over โa growing tension that goes beyond editorial differences.โ
As it turns out, he was fired.
As Mediaite reports:
Fox News hostย Geraldo Riveraย posted a video from the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday in which he said he was fired from Fox News's top-rated show,ย The Five,ย and therefore quit the network after a 23-year run.
Last week, Rivera told the Associated Press in an interview that he was leavingย The Five,ย but at the time, it was reported that he had quit.
โGeraldo Rivera has quit as one of the lonely liberal voices on Fox News' popular political combat show โThe Five,' saying Wednesday that โa growing tension that goes beyond editorial differences' made it no longer worth it to him,โย wroteย the AP'sย David Bauder,ย who spoke with Rivera.
โSo it doesn't look like I'm going to be on The Five. I mean, I'm not going to be on The Five. I've been fired from The Five. And as a result of that. I quit Fox. So I'll have more to say about that on Fox and Friends tomorrow morning,โ Rivera said in a video taken from his boat as he was traveling into New York City.
โIt has been a rocky ride, but it has also been an exhilarating adventure that spanned quite a few years,โ Rivera, 80, told the Associated Press after news he was leaving โThe Fiveโ broke.
It's unclear what Rivera will do next. Responding to an online critic who recently asked why he wouldn't retire quietly, the 52-year showbiz vet said, โthe problem with retiring though is my restless energy when it concerns issues important to the American people.โ He thenย posted a shirtless selfie.

Not worth a comment.
I never considered him a star in the first place….just another phony mouthpiece that I never bothered with so I say good riddance and I hope the same for Fox.
Fox should have fired gerry 22 years ago…
