A quip by Jane Fonda sent the ladies of โThe Viewโ into a tizzy Friday.
During a panel discussion, Fonda emphatically stated that โwe're not going back,โ a reference to pre-Roe America.
When asked by Joy Behar about what activists can do to create the change they want to see in the world, Fonda said, โI've thought of murder.โ
Per Mediaite:
Fonda joinedย The Viewย with comic co-starย Lily Tomlin. The two star together in the new filmย Moving Onย and during a discussion about that film's writer/director,ย Paul Weitz, another collaboration between the filmmaker and Tomlin was brought up. In the 2015 featureย Grandma, Tomlin stars as a woman trying to help her granddaughter raise funds for an abortion.
Joy Beharย noted the film was released long before the Supreme Court overturnedย Roe v Wade. She asked the actresses aboutย Roe v Wade, as well as the reports that Walgreens will not be selling anย abortion pillย in states where the attorney generals have objected and imposed abortion restrictions.
โAll of this stuff that has gone on with the change in laws and the backsliding in the country is pretty terrifically awful,โ Tomlin said.
The rapidly evolving nature of the conversation prompted Behar to ask Fonda what she would recommend abortion rights protesters do beyond โmarching and protesting.โ
โWell, I've thought of murder,โ Fonda said in an apparent and highly injudicious joke.
The statement prompted handwringing by the hosts, who were quick to claim that the actress arguably best known for posing on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun was kidding.
Tomlin was quick to scold her co-star as well.
ABC, which airs โThe View,โ hasn't responded to requests for comment.

I will be so glad when Hanoi Jane bites the dust, she’s a waste of oxygen.
Hanoi Genocide Jane right
That’s exactly what the view is about!
nobody on there has anything good to say,or in their hearts!
They wouldn’t bat an eye at killing a baby!!!
Jane Fonda is,and always was a traitor to this country!
The young people who think she’s a good person should look up “Hanoi Jane”!!!!
She wasn’t joking, and wouldn’t accept that BS excuse from anyone on the other side of the issue.
Anyone selfish and bloodthirsty enough to murder an unborn baby will have no compunctions against murdering anyone else.
Abortion is bad enough, but Fonda, Tomlin, women on the View and their audience all subscribe to the popular myth that clinics are like hospital operating rooms.
But, clinics not required to have any lifesaving medical equipment on site, or to employ a Doctor, PA or RNs or LPNs. They have technicians. ย If a woman experiences complications, the clinic staff call 911 for an ambulance. Major cities have imposed guidelines that within 2 blocks of clinics, arriving and departing ambulance crews cannot use sirens/flashing lights. They must obey speed limits and traffic signals, so they won’t attract attention to the clinic.
liberals are all about murder. murder the folks who want to stop the murder of babies. Noone wants to talk about prevention because that would infer responsibility which is OFF THE TABLE for democrats!
Is the reason why these women can’t accept not killing a baby is because they have murdered their baby or talked someone into killing their baby and they don’t want to accept any quilt. By worshiping murdering a baby as “okay” as so many women do, they don’t have to admit quilt. That won’t work. Just being for killing a baby encourages other women to murder their child because they think it’s okay because others especially well know woman think so. It’s always murder, killing a baby. That’s why Roe said as long as it’s done in secret or a private place, murder’s okay. Well, why don’t we just go ahead and say as long as it’s done in secret or a private place, a murderer can murder anybody, adult and baby and children. If it’s okay for one murder it’s okay for all murders. A baby inside the mother is a baby with it’s human DNA whether it’s inside or outside.
