Legendary talk show host and former Cincinnati mayor Jerry Springer has passed away.
According to a family statement, Springer died peacefully Thursday at his home in suburban Chicago.
โJerry's ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,โ said Jene Galvin, a lifelong friend and spokesman for the family. โHe's irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.โ
After serving as Cincinnati's 56th mayor, Springer left politics to become a news anchor and commentator at WLWT in Cincinnati before taking on a new role as a talk show host in the early 90s.
Jerry Springer became an American mainstay for the sometimes controversial โJerry Springer Show.โ
According to Variety, โThe Jerry Springer Showโ began its multi-decade run in 1991 and, in 1998 at the height of its popularity, beatย โThe Oprah Winfrey Showโ in the ratings, drawing 12 million viewers.
