While serving as acting governor, New Jersey's Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver (D) was hospitalized earlier Monday.
Garden State Gov. Phil Murphy (D) is currently in Italy.
New Jersey Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari (D) has taken on the role of acting governor until Murphy returns.
As News 12 New Jersey reports:
Oliver is at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and is โunable to discharge the duties of acting governor at this time,โ Communications Director Mahen Gunaratna said in a statement Monday.
There is no word yet on exactly why Oliver is in the hospital, but Gunaratna says he'll provide updates on her condition.
Under the New Jersey Constitution, Gunaratna says State Senate President Nick Scutari assumed the role of acting governor Monday morning.
โI have again assumed the responsibilities of Acting Governor with a commitment to faithfully discharge the duties of the Office,โ Scutari said in a statement. โI want to extend my best wishes to Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver for a rapid and healthy recovery. We look forward to her return.โ
