For those who don't know, Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) is a member of the Squad and a supporter of the defund the police movement.
She's unapologetic in her views, telling CBS News last August that โDefunding the police has to happen. We need to defund the police and put that money into social safety nets, because we're trying to save lives.โ
Bush's district, which includes St. Louis and a some of its closest suburbs, has one of the highest murder rates per capita in the United States.
Last year, Bush paid $70,000 for private security at the Capitol.
Now it's being widely reported that an unidentified assailant raked her car with gunfire in the St. Louis area.
Thankfully, Bush wasn't in the car at the time. According to Bush's personal Twitter account, this is the second time someone has shot up her car in two years.
The Daily Mail adds:
Twitter users blasted her logic Thursday after she confirmed on the platform that her unoccupied car had been struck by gunfire, saying โany act of gun violence shakes your soul.'
Retorted a fellow Twitter user:ย โStill think defunding police and releasing criminals is a great idea, Cori Bush?'
It's unclear if Bush called the police after last weekend's attack. The Hill noted last summer that Bush claims multiple police officers have threatened her life.
Her claims of being victimized have been scrutinized on previous occasions, including when she claimed to have been shot at during a 2014 protest in Ferguson.
โWhen we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr was murdered and shoot at us,' she tweeted in November.
Ferguson Police Chief Frank McCall Jr. said he had no recollect of any such incident.
