Karoline Leavitt, a Gen Z Republican candidate running for Congress in New Hamshire's 1st Congressional District announced endorsements from a number of former influential Trump advisors in the state on Friday.
According to her campaign website, Leavitt worked at the Trump White House where she โwas a Presidential Writer and later served as an Assistant Press Secretary in the Press Office.โ
Following the 2020 election, she โworked on Capitol Hill as the Communications Director for Congresswoman and House Republican Conference Chair, Elise Stefanik.โ Stefanik has also endorsed Leavitt's campaign this year.
Leavitt is facing a number of formidable opponents in the primary โ including Matt Mowers, who was the Republican nominee for the seat in 2020 and worked in the Trump administration as Senior White House Advisor at the State Department.
According to Mowers' campaign website, he โadvised the U.S. Secretary of State and was engaged on issues including stemming the tide of illegal immigration, defeating ISIS, making America energy independent and ensuring religious freedom.โ
As reported in WMUR earlier this week:
A new poll from the St. Anselm College Survey Center shows two candidates breaking away from the pack in the Republican primary to take on U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, while the Republican primary in the 2nd District remains up for grabs.
Matt Mowers, the 2020 GOP nominee in the 1st District, leads the 2022 field with 25% in the poll of registered voters, but right behind him is Karoline Leavitt, the former assistant press secretary in the Trump White House, with 21%.
Ironically, New Hampshire is home to both the โFirst In The Nationโ primary in presidential years as well as one of the latest primaries for fall elections. This year, the state will host its primary on September 13th, as will its fellow northeastern states of Delaware and Rhode Island.
