House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is already revealing her next steps if Republicans win back the House of Representatives. Sources familiar with the matter say that Pelosi wants President Biden to appoint her as the U.S. ambassador to Italy if her party loses control.
President Biden has yet to name anyone to the role with sources telling FOX Business that the president is keeping the position open for Pelosi as the likelihood of the GOP's victory builds.
Thus far, 101 Biden ambassador nominees have been confirmed by the Senate, but a number of ambassador positions have remained open.
Traditionally, the president has appointed officials who helped push them to the White House to the most desirable locations.
If Pelosi is appointed to the cushy position, the ambassador's villa in Rome, Villa Taverna has impressive gardens, a pool and a three-story wine cellar.
However, the 82-year-old has kept quiet about her plans for the future. Many Republicans and some Democrat colleagues have pushed Pelosi to retire from politics.
In January, Democrat House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) predicted Pelosi would retire from Congress at the end of this term.
โMy gut would tell me that this would be her last term.โ Rep. Yarmuth said. โI see a lot of people who would be the presumed successors donating a lot of money to their colleagues.โ
However, Pelosi has kept her retirement plans tight to her chest. If the California Democrat does retire after this term and her party manages to hold onto its majority, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) is first in line to replace Pelosi and House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) is second.ย Although neither Congressman has announced any intention to replace Pelosi.
If the GOP does in fact retake the House of Representatives, the individual most likely to ascend to become the new House Speaker is House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). However, if McCarthy's bid were to be derailed the second choice would more than likely be House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.).
However, McCarthy has seen himself in a similar position once before and fell short of becoming Speaker.
In 2015, Rep. McCarthy served as House Majority Leader when GOP Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced his resignation. The California Republican immediately announced his candidacy for speaker but the effort quickly collapsed after a TV interview went awry. McCarthy claimed that the purpose of a special committee investigating the deaths of four Americans at the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, was to drive down the popularity ratings of Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
McCarthy's mistake ultimately cost him the position and House Ways and Means Committee Chair Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) became Speaker.
With Reps. McCarthy and Scalise potentially being elevated to the top two leadership positions, the fight is on to find the next House majority whip. A number of potential candidates have already begun to swirl. Among them are House Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) as well as Reps. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) and Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.).

NO give her Amb to Russia, China, Iran
Amb to Ukraine. Always a chance of a rocket attack somewhere!
AND slip a bag of weed in her luggage!!!!!!
At. Least this would get her out of the country. And Paul off of our roads.
karmic and several other forms of justice would dictate that the republicans use their new power in a quid pro quo payback and deny (and rip up) her confirmation–after all, that’s what she’d do. teachable moments have consequences–use the lessons.
Send her as an ambassador to Alcatraz. And DON’T forget to IMPOUND her BROOM . . . She’s a FLIGHT risk! One Enlightened Patriot.
LO freakin L !!! Well,put my friend!
She should probably make sure that wherever she is sent does not have an extradition treaty with America.
She just wants to be closer to the wine.
Ambassador to WHERE? Ambassador to National Embalming School! Her embalming fluid is already a couple quarts LOW.
At least that would get her out of the country, hopefully permanantly and after all she is italian???? Oh, so sorry she just married an italian drunk where she fits right in!
She’s going to need to stay in the US because she’ll be sitting before committee hearings answering, not asking, many questions.
I still want term limits (2 terms) for all those Washington crooks.
