The leader of the Republicans' U.S. Senate campaign arm formally threw his support behind America's 45th president Monday evening.
Montana Republican Steve Daines formally endorsed Donald Trumpย as his choice in the 2024 GOP primary while appearing on Triggered, a podcast hosted by the former president's son, Donald Trump Jr.
NBC's Senior National Political Reporter Sahil Kapur noted that the endorsement puts Daines at odds with Mitch McConnell, who has previously told his outlet that Trump was a detriment with swing voters in 2020.
As noted by many including Trump's communications advisor Jason Miller, Daines has significant sway with the Republican Party's top donors.
Chronicles Magazine editor Pedro Gonzalez highlighted the track record of Trump and his family seemingly caving to the wills of big business, including Disney and Anheuser-Busch.
Not all conservatives seemed thrilled with the endorsement. Principles First founder Heath Mayo called such a significant endorsement this early in the presidential campaign cycle โabsolutely pathetic.โ Mayo's group started in 2019 as an โanti-CPACโ.
Still, Trump appears to be gathering the most support of any declared 2024 Republican presidential candidate at this point in the race, having garnered the endorsements of over fifty sitting members of Congress.

Wonderful. Based on today’s announcement from the other side we could be choosing between two geriatrics – one just under 80 and the other over 80 and over the hill. If those are the choices so be it. It is a no-brainer. But, I can’t help thinking we are going down a dumb path.
