Republican infighting seems to be echoing throughout every chamber of Congress.
On Friday, two Republican Senators called to push the Senate GOP's leadership elections a day.
Florida Republican Marco Rubio initially pushed to postpone the vote saying the next Senate GOP Leader should be โgenuinely committedโ to defending conservative values.
โThe Senate GOP leadership vote next week should be postponed,โ Rubioย tweeted. โFirst we need to make sure that those who want to lead us are genuinely committed to fighting for the priorities & values of the working Americans (of every background) who gave us big wins in states like #Florida.โย
Rubio won re-election Tuesday night in a battle against Democrat opponent Val Demmings.
Fellow Republican senator Josh Hawley (Mo.) reiterated Rubio's comments on Twitter.
โExactly right. I don't know why Senate GOP would hold a leadership vote for the next Congress before this election is finished,โ Hawley saidย quote-tweetingย Rubio's initial statement. โWe have a runoff in #GASenate โ are they saying that doesn't matter? Don't disenfranchise @HerschelWalker.โย
The two Senator's comments came after The Washington Examiner broke reports that Florida Sen. Rick Scott was seriously considering challenging current Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) for the position.
According toย Politicoโsย reporting, which has not been independently verified by theย Washington Examiner,ย Scott had already made a video declaring his intentions to run for party leader. But, according toย Politico, Scott changed his mind on Wednesday once it became clear that there was no โred waveโ and that Republicans weren't as likely to take control of the chamber.
Sen. Hawley recently blamed McConnell for the GOP's lackluster results in the midterm elections, telling RealClearPolitics in an interview that โWashington Republicanismโ and the GOP leader's decision not to offer an alternative vision hurt the party on Tuesday. (RELATED: Will the New GOP Majorities Belong to McConnell and McCarthy?)
McConnell previously voiced concerns about โcandidate qualityโ in Republicans' pursuit to gain control of the Senate, a reference to GOP nominees endorsed by former President Trump.
This summer, Scott and McConnell clashed, presenting two separate strategies for winning the Senate in the fall. According to reporting from theย Washington Post, at a Senate lunch, both McConnell and Scott asked their colleagues to donate to each of their respective super PACs. This set off a battle in which senators essentially were asked to choose sides.
As of Friday, neither political party has won control of the Senate. Control of the upper chamber may potentially be left undecided until a winner is declared in Georgia's Senate runoff on December 6th.

They should all be standing against McConnell it was he who blew the chance of a red wave holding back money to key candidates, and giving it to our rino from Alaska.
You are so right !!! I blame it all on McConnell !! If the money he sent Lisa was spent on a few of these that barely lost we would now have a Senate majority. I can not believe any sane person would spend money to defeat a good Republican Candidate ! He is a traitor and Rino which we all new anyhow ! He needs to be removed from the leadership role !!!
You are correct so far as you went, but an even bigger reason is that Trump couldn’t keep his big mouth shut. The hate Trump feelings run wide and deep across this country and that makes him toxic for the republican party and any hopes they had for winning this year. If he’s not in jail, and announces he is running for president again, the GOP needs to rebut him and tell the country he is not their candidate, that he’s doing this on his own. He will never get elected again, and he needs to realize that, sadly his big ego won’t allow him to do that.
Republicans “betray” McConnell? Don’t you have that backwards?
McConnell is corrupt to his very core!!! He’s been bought off by the CCP and who knows who else is lining his pocket!!! We need a True Constitutional Conservative with a spine of Steel!!!
For which he needs to be in jail.
Steve Sclaise as House Speaker
The pig needs to be gone.
This is great news!
Right. This old reach-across-the-aisle R sorely needs a rebuke. He needs to be put out to pasture with his soul mate Nancy. In the pasture old Bull Mitch and Cow Nancy can reach-across-the-aisle together until the sky falls.
Mitch McConnell is a traitor to the Republican party. He sides with Biden. How much payoffs does he get to betray the American people?. No one wants him leading the Senate.
Mitch needs to go, long overdue
Frankly, I hope we don’t have a Senate Majority. I’m kind of glad there wasn’t a Red Wave.
The next two years are going to be two of the worst years in American history economically and socially. With the groundwork that has been put in place by both house majorities and a brain dead President, I don’t think even a Red Wave could prevent it. Millions and millions of Americans will lose everything and without total control Republicans can’t stop it. Controlling the House and Senate would just allow blame to be placed there. An extremely painful lesson in socialism is coming and if that doesn’t wake this country up all is lost anyway.
I am with Rubio and Hawley. They should wait until Republicans win the Senate (the House too for that matter) and then vote for new leaders, NOT McConnell and NOT McCarthy, they are Establishment, NOT for We The People.
A reappointment of two-faced reach-across-the-aisle McConnell is a victory for Chuckie Schumer.
McConnell must go. He is a “drag” on the Republican Party. He has already set up his Kentucky exit a year ago. It is time for new blood. He dispersed Republican money dollars this past election in a crappy way to candidates he personally liked and not to those who should have got the dollars. WHAT CAMPAIGNING DID McConnell DO THIS PAST ELECTION ? NONE TO LITTLE. McConnell MUST GO !
McConnell has betrayed the Republican party time and time again! Please don’t let him continue in politics.
