The leading Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania's crucial U.S. Senate race suffered a stroke over the weekend.
John Fetterman, Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor and the overwhelming favorite in Tuesday's statewide primary went to the hospital Friday.
In a Tweet, Fetterman said that he โdidn't want to go,โ but his wife insisted, and โas usual, she was right.โ
As Mediaite reports:
In a statement, the candidate explained that his wife,ย Giselle Fetterman, recommended he be examined by a doctor after observing symptoms. He revealed the stroke was caused by a clot in his heart.

Fetterman did not address why his campaign waited two days to disclose the diagnosis publicly. He went on to say that his prognosis is good โ though he is remaining in the hospital for the time being.
โThe good news is I'm feeling much better and the doctors tell me I didn't suffer any cognitive damage,โ Fetterman said. โI'm well on my way to a full recovery.โ
Fetterman has gained national attention for, among other things, his extremely unconventional campaign trail attire โ as he typically wears shorts and a hoodie. He was the subject of a splashyย New York Timesย feature this weekend, andย recent pollsย showed him with nearly a 40-point lead over his nearest Democratic challenger ahead of Tuesday's primary.
