Wikipedia has digitally handcuffed one of the most vulnerable House Republicans.
The free online encyclopedia decided it had enough of Congressman Mike Lawler's attempts to boost his resume by repeatedly editing his own page. (RELATED: Republican Senate Contender's Wikipedia Page Repeatedly Deleted)
New York's Daily News further reports:
He alsoย threw his name on a list of famed graduates of Manhattan Collegeย and added a YouTube video of himself giving a โvaledictory addressโ at the college, the Daily Beast reported Wednesday.
The edits to his own profile violate Wikipedia rules and the companyย warned Lawler to knock it off.ย When he continued to make edits, he was blocked from editing profiles.
Democratic ex-Rep. Mondaire Jones said Lawler should focus more on fighting climate change and other serious issues than on prettying up his Wikipedia profile.
โMike Lawler is so insecure about his resume he was banned from Wikipedia for embellishing it,โ Jones tweeted.
The congressman's personal Wikipedia account is now banned statewide.
Lawler represents New York's 17th Congressional District (a Biden +11 seat). He defeated incumbent and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chair Sean Patrick Maloney last year in what observers called a local red wave that swamped Democrats in New York's U.S. House districts.
Now he faces the prospect of having the most brutal reelection fight of any member of the House Republican Conference. (RELATED: Trump Celebrates Republicans Losing Pickup Opportunity As Control Of Congress Hangs In The Balance)
Former Congressman Mondaire Jones and Liz Gereghty, who happens to be Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's sister, are the two leading Democratic candidates who hope to unseat him.
Nevertheless, the 36-year-old freshman lawmaker is considered a rising star in the GOP, rapidly ascending from local to national politics. Pundits expect he'll put up a fierce fight.
