A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed in an early morning ATV accident on Wednesday in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.
According to The Washington Examiner, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection confirmed the incident happened around 1 a.m. CST Wednesday while the agent was tracking a group of people suspected of crossing the border illegally
โA Border Patrol agent assigned to the McAllen Station patrolling the international boundary on an all-terrain vehicle was tracking a group of subjects that illegally crossed the border when he was involved in an accident near Mission, Texas,โ CBP told theย Washington Examiner. โHe was found unresponsive by fellow agents, who immediately initiated life-saving efforts and requested EMS.โ
โThe death of an agent who died while securing our nation's border is a tremendous loss for our organization and our nation. Our prayers are with his family and co-workers during this difficult time,โ Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz said in a statement to theย Washington Examiner.
A news release stated he was found unresponsive by his fellow agents who initiated life-saving efforts and requested EMS support.
The agent was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
